In fact, the whole area is a haven for wildlife. Herds of deer can be seen roaming the landscape and, if you can be very quiet, you may have the opportunity to see otters living in their natural habitat. Birds of prey, red squirrels and a host of other wildlife, are all there to be found when you explore. For the fisherman, several major rivers, including the Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree, all of them notable for salmon and trout fishing, are close at hand.
